Comfort Meets Clarity: Discover Your Perfect Contact Lenses at Peterborough Optometric.
About Contact Lenses
Contact lenses are thin, curved lenses placed on the tear film that covers the cornea, the front surface of the eye, to correct a variety of vision issues, including myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism, and presbyopia.
Contact lenses are also used for cosmetic purposes, such as changing eye colour, and for therapeutic reasons, like bandage lenses that protect the eye during healing.
As an alternative to eyeglasses, contact lenses offer the advantages of a wider field of vision and the convenience for active lifestyles, empowering you to live life to the fullest.
Soft and Specialty Contact Lenses
Soft contact lenses are the most common type we fit, offering comfort and ease of use. Peterborough Optometric offers various soft contact lenses, including daily disposables, which are discarded after one use; monthly disposables, which require nightly cleaning; multifocal, and contact lenses for astigmatism.
Specialty contact lenses cater to specific needs. Some people with very high prescriptions, corneal diseases or irregularities, dry eye disease, and children requiring myopia management cannot wear standard contact lenses and require a different kind of custom-made lens. Some speciality lenses we fit are gas-permeable or rigid contact lenses, scleral contact lenses, and orthokeratology lenses.
Contact Lens Fitting and Care
Contact lenses are a medical device, and proper fitting and care, as guided by your optometrist, ensure comfort and eye health.
During a fitting, an optometrist measures the eye's curvature and evaluates tear production to determine the most suitable lens type. Patients are instructed on the correct insertion and removal techniques and the importance of hygiene practices to prevent infections.
Regular follow-up appointments are not just a formality but an essential part of our commitment to your eye health. At Peterborough Optometric, we monitor your eye health and adjust the lens prescription or fit, ensuring that your contact lenses are comfortable, your eyes remain healthy with contact lens wear, and you reach your best visual potential.
